Problem Description

Law firms conducting deposition training drills need a court reporter to produce properly formatted deposition transcripts, but hiring a court reporter for training exercises is cost-prohibitive. There is no affordable tool that can listen to a multi-speaker in-person drill, distinguish between roles (examining attorney, defending attorney, witness), and produce a properly formatted deposition transcript in real time.

Expected Outcome

A web application that captures live audio from an in-person deposition drill via microphone, performs real-time speaker-identified transcription, displays a live scrollable transcript on the operator's screen during the session, and immediately produces downloadable Word and PDF transcripts formatted to standard deposition conventions (double-spaced, lines 1–25 per page, Q. and A. labels, speaker names). The app supports up to 6 simultaneous independent sessions and saves completed session transcripts for later retrieval.

Acceptance Criteria
  1. Before a session begins, the operator can enter participant names and assign each to one of three roles: Examining Attorney, Defending Attorney, or Witness.
  2. The app accepts live audio input from a connected microphone or audio device during a session.
  3. The app performs real-time speech-to-text transcription and attributes each utterance to the correct named speaker using voice differentiation.
  4. Examining Attorney speech is labeled with the speaker's name and formatted as Q. lines; Witness speech is labeled with the speaker's name and formatted as A. lines; Defending Attorney speech (including objections and interruptions) is labeled with the speaker's name and captured verbatim.
  5. The live transcript is displayed in a scrollable view on the operator's screen and updates continuously as speech is recognized during the session.
  6. The transcript is formatted double-spaced with line numbers 1–25 repeating per page throughout the document.
  7. Upon ending a session, the operator can download the complete transcript as a properly formatted .docx file.
  8. Upon ending a session, the operator can download the complete transcript as a properly formatted PDF file.
  9. Both the Word and PDF exports are available for download within 60 seconds of the session ending.
  10. Up to 6 independent sessions can run simultaneously without degradation of transcription accuracy or responsiveness in any session.
  11. Completed session transcripts are saved and accessible to the operator for retrieval and download after the session has ended.
  12. The app is accessible via web browser on Windows and Mac without requiring any software installation beyond a supported modern browser.
